Workshop Overview:

Explore the classical roots of Five Element Acupuncture with Niki Bilton, the spring 2019 presenter in the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Visiting Scholars Series.  Niki is an empowering and positive teacher with particular skills in bringing an immediate awareness of the elements into practical treatment protocols, and helping practitioners discover within themselves the potency of the inner practitioner.

The Classical Roots of Five Element Acupuncture

In this workshop, you will explore:

  • Dao,yinyang, and HeavenEarthMan informing the role of humanity
  • Xing(one’s proper nature) as the gift of Anterior Heaven (vis-à vis the CF and Withins)
  • Conformity tozheng (regulatory) qi leading to ming (destiny)
  • The accrual ofxie (evil, perverse, or pathogenic) qi
  • Thewuxing correspondences, the five shen (spirits) and zhi (wills) illuminating the nature of the five elements
  • CSOE (diagnosis of the CF and Withins)
  • Treatment of the CF and Withins, with reference to the nature of acupuncture points
  • Treatment of pathologies (the 12 officials in the 11 positions, thejingluo and the sheng/ke cycles) in light of the CF and Withins
  • The patient-practitioner relationship and the role of the practitioner

 

Workshop Schedule:

Saturday, October 19

9:00-12:30

Introduction to key Chinese medical theories prominent in five element acupuncture rooted in SuwenLingshu (e.g. anatomy as jingluo channels; physiology as BMS functions of the 12 officials; aetiology as the 6 external, 7 internal & 8 miscellaneous causes of disease; pathopysiology re channels, officials & sheng/ke homeostatic cycles). Review of Dao, yinyang and HeavenEarthMan informing the role of humanity; Xing (one’s proper nature) as the gift of Anterior Heaven (vis-à vis the CF and Withins); Conformity to zheng (regulatory) qi leading to ming (destiny); The accrual of xie (evil, perverse or pathogenic) qi.

1:30-5:30

Treatment of pathologies (the 12 officials in the 11 positions, the jingluo and the sheng/ke cycles) in light of the CF and Withins.

12:30-1:30 Lunch on Own

1:30-5:30

The patient-practitioner relationship and the role of the practitioner.

 

Visiting Scholar Bio:

Niki Bilton is one of the most experienced teachers of Five Element Acupuncture internationally. She trained and taught at the College of Traditional Acupuncture in Warwickshire, England (1979-1998), and observed J.R. Worsley’s clinical work first-hand over many years. She has been teaching acupuncture students and running post-graduate workshops for 30+ years. She has maintained a private practice since 1982 and a consultancy service since 1989. Niki is the President of TendingShen Inc. (Canada) and the Academic Dean at Ongiara College of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Ontario, Canada.
